Origins
The idea of a former Fleet Captain, the Junior Fleet concept was first presented to the teenagers of CYC and organized in 1959. A committee of interested adults was formed to assist the Club youth, ages 12 to 18, with electing their own Officers and Committee Chairs.
The Junior Fleet was established “to organize the young people of CYC to work in coordination with the Officers and members of the Club. Under the guidance of its elected sponsor, the Junior Fleet, organizes activities, promotes safety, and furthers boating education.” It is comprised of the sons, daughters, and grandchildren of active members and fosters a sense of belonging and promotes friendships among our youth. It traditionally operates under the auspices of the Fleet Captain.
