Kayak Initiative
The best way to teach kids about boats is on small boats. Kayaks are a great introductory boat for kids since they are easy to use and durable. Kayaks are also easy to transport and can be put on the fore deck of your boat if you go for a cruise or over to the Rhode River to explore the Smithsonian’s kayak trail.
The perfect kayak for kids!
The Emotion Sparky Kayak is a small, durable, sit on top, kayak designed for kids that retails for about $120.00. Some members of the Junior Fleet had the opportunity to test out these kayaks and have confirmed that they are a perfect size for kids. This kayak cannot be swamped and are easily righted when flipped.
The Junior Fleet is interested in procuring a number of Sparky Kayaks as well as one or two larger adult size kayaks. Evolution makes a basic adult size kayak – the Spitfire – that retails for about $250 which is has also been tested by the Junior Fleet. We would like to get a couple of these for big kids and grown-ups to use so they can paddle with their kids or grandkids. For more information on these kayaks, click here
Help Us Buy Some Kayaks
If you would like to make a monetary donation to support the purchase of a few kayaks and paddles, a contribution can be made to the Junior Fleet through the Club.
